Child and Adolescent MH+ID Book is now released!

The book, Mental Health of Children and Adolescents with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: A framework for professional practice is now available. The book is edited by David Dossetor, Donna White and Lesley Whatson- the first of its kind in Australia. Emotion-based Social Skills Training Workshop

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead are offering training for clinicians in Emotion-based Social Skills Training, a specialist intervention for children with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities, their parents and teachers in October/November 2011. EBSST aims to enhance skills in social and emotional development and promote mental health and well-being. Recipe for Success: Penrith.

Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) is pleased to announce ‘Recipe for Success’ in Penrith. Recipe for Success is a unique autism specific Positive Behaviour Support workshop. It has been designed using contemporary evidence based strategies by Aspect’s Behaviour Support Team as part of their direct work with families. By the end of the 3 day workshop every family will write their own Autism specific Positive Behaviour Support plan based on a chosen behaviour.

Have your say: New disability & education follow-up survey - AYAC

The Australian Youth Affairs Coalition (AYAC) recently conducted a survey on the Disability Standards for Education and these results were shared with to the Government. Since then, the Federal Government announced $200 million extra funding for school students with disabilities. AYAC will be meeting with the Minister for Youth and Schools Education on 11 August this year. They are holding a second survey to gather your views on how students with disabilities can be better supported by decision-makers. Your answers will remain anonymous, and the survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete. Survey closes 20 July 2011. Click here to complete survey.
